Eternal Ring

Rings, not a fifth King's Field

Japan released Eternal Ring on 4 March 2000, in the PlayStation 2 launch window. North America was 26 October 2000. Europe was 22 December 2000. You build rings by setting gems, across six elements in the system notes. That crafting loop is the reason it is not King's Field IV with a new coat. King's Field IV came later, on 4 October 2001, and it is The Ancient City, a dungeon of maps and a slow camera. Eternal Ring is the one you can still buy as a PlayStation 4 emulation product.

The US store page lists that emulation at $14.99, and PlayStation 5 can run the PlayStation 4 build. HowLongToBeat's displayed estimate is 9.5 hours main, 12.5 with extras, 16.5 complete, from 24 reports. Metacritic 62 is the figure the encyclopedia repeats. Composers credited there include Keiichiro Segawa and Tsukasa Saitoh, the latter of whom also scored The Ancient City. A shared composer is not a shared map.

Plot summaries in English are thinner than the King's Field wikis. I am not going to invent a hero's hometown to fill the gap. If the question is 'what FromSoftware first-person game can I buy digitally today,' this is the honest answer, with the price dated 7 Nov 2026.

How it sits next to the series you came for

People who finish The Ancient City and want another FromSoftware maze from that era have two doors: back to the PlayStation trilogy, or sideways to Eternal Ring and Shadow Tower. Eternal Ring is the gentle door and the one with a store button. Shadow Tower is the cruel door and the one without a modern listing I can show.

It is still not on the King's Field play order. Buying it does not teach you who Lyle is.
