King's Field II (Japan, 1995)

JP: キングスフィールドII · NA: King's Field · 1995 · PlayStation. JP / US numbering · Other “King's Field II”

The first King's Field most people could buy

Japan released King's Field II on 21 July 1995. North America released the same game on 14 February 1996 and deleted the number, so the box just says King's Field. That is why a US shelf never shows a "1" next to a "2" for these PlayStation years. Europe is the row I will not flatten: Wikipedia gives 10 March 1997, and the Fandom series page gives December 1996. Both stay on the table.

The protagonist is Aleph, Alexander Thornton Regginis, a prince of Granatyki. The place is Melanat, an island, not the Verdite countryside of the next game and not the five-floor tomb of 1994. The stated goal is to recover the Moonlight Sword. Famitsu's score, as repeated in the encyclopedia record, is 35 out of 40. HowLongToBeat's displayed estimate for the US release is 16.5 hours main, 19.5 with extras, 20 complete, from 28 reports.

What changes if you only know the US title

If a guide says "King's Field 2" it might mean this game or the US second game, which is Japanese III. On this site the slug keeps the Japanese year. The US script is commercial English, so you do not need the 2006 patch that belongs only to SLPS-00017. A static recompilation called Verdite2 targets the US disc serial SLUS-00158, version 0.5.2 dated 26 October 2026, and it asks for your own dump. That project is not a FromSoftware port.

The island route that published walkthroughs repeat runs from a west-coast landing, through a village, into a large mine, and on toward Guyra. Pirate's Key and the Moon Gate are the items those notes name. Guyra is the final dragon. I keep the route on the walkthrough and a region sketch on the map page, because this game has no automap in the sources I read. Second-hand US complete copies, from one eBay aggregator, average about $134 across 20 sales.
