The US box that says II
Japan released King's Field III on 21 June 1996. North America released it on 20 November 1996 as King's Field II. No PAL release is listed. If your disc art says II and your guide says III, you are holding this game. It is not the 1995 island game, and it is not The Ancient City.
The player character is Lyle, Austin Lyle Forester. His father, John Alfred Forester, is the man Seath has taken. Most of the journey is above ground in Verdite, which is why this game feels larger than the tomb and the island before it. Published routes name a map screen that can send you between towns. I have not found a source that calls that screen an automap, so I do not use that word. HowLongToBeat's displayed estimate is 24.5 hours main, 25 with extras, and 35 complete, from only 13 reports. A sample that small can swing, and I leave it labeled.
Seath, the broken sword, and the ground you walk
Seath is the white dragon and the final boss. The Moonlight Sword enters the story broken and is restored across Hill of Prayer, the Royal Cemetery, and Verdite Castle. Element crystals teach magic. Orladin's Key is the item name I can source; search phrases like "Orlan Key" do not match a separate object in the lists I checked. A static recompilation, Verdite3, targets the US disc SLUS-00255, version 0.2.0 dated 18 October 2026, for Windows, Linux, and Steam Deck, again requiring your own dump.
The long place-list — Quist, the Ancient Battleground, the Forest of Varde, the wind palace, Ralugo, the ice field, the high-elf ruin — is the spine of the walkthrough. Verdite as a kingdom has its own page because the place outlives this one disc. US complete copies in the eBay summary average about $131 across 37 sales, with a range near $69 to $265. That aggregator is one source.
